At OjeOje, we keep a constant eye on the climate. We design unique reading glasses and sunglasses that catch the eye and spread joy with their colorful recycled plastic.
• All our glasses are recycled and carefully manufactured from recycled plastic, originating from transparent plastic packaging from food, bottles, and screw caps. Instead of ending up and filling landfills as waste, it is crushed and transformed anew into unique, sassy, and colorful OjeOje reading glasses and sunglasses that you can mix, match, and complete your look with – and create extra attention! • All our glasses are 100% phthalate-free.
• Each pair of glasses comes with a cool recycled case.
• We reduce our CO2 footprint by using limited amounts of packaging and exclusively FSC-certified paper.
• We produce everything that is at all possible in Denmark. Our glasses are designed here in the country, and then produced by our carefully selected GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified manufacturer in Taiwan.
• We say no to overproduction and only produce new glasses when we see a need for it.
• We also design reading glasses from existing frames, which have been assembled in a new, colorful, and sustainable way. The purpose of the design is to emphasize our focus on upcycling, as it is unnecessary for us to burden our planet by constantly producing new items.
• Our upcycled fabric cases are hand-sewn by volunteer Soroptimists in Denmark from surplus fabric from the textile company Kvadrat. All proceeds from the sale of cases go to Soroptimist International's important work: improving the lives and status of women and girls.
• We support the Danish environmental organization Plastic Change, which campaigns for ambitious goals for plastic reduction and recycling.
• We donate reading glasses to African women through the company Coffee Beanies, which works to improve the conditions for coffee farmers in Burundi.
• We collaborate with Væksthuset, where we help people who need extra help and support.
We think about everything that matters
At OjeOje, we produce everything that is at all possible in Denmark. Our glasses are designed here in the country, and then produced by our carefully selected GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified manufacturer in Taiwan. Our spectacle cases are made from Danish-produced fabric remnants, and sewn by women who are members of Soroptimist International Kolding, Denmark. At OjeOje, we thus only create glasses and accessories by considering the climate in terms of materials, production, production conditions, distribution, and our choice of partners. We believe this is a matter of course!
What is recycling?
Recycling literally means reuse. It's about reusing materials by breaking them down and creating new material that becomes a new product. This could be food packaging, toys, clothes, and furniture that get a new life as something entirely different. A good example is our glasses, which are made from recycled plastic that previously contained food packaging, bottles, and screw caps.
What is upcycling?
Upcycling is about reusing materials as they are. The materials are used again in their existing form, but in a new way. Our spectacle cases are an excellent example of upcycling. They are sewn from surplus fabric from the Danish textile company Kvadrat. The fabric remains fabric, but goes from being remnants to becoming new, useful, and unique spectacle cases.
