What are reading glasses?

Reading glasses are spectacles where the lens acts as a magnifying glass, making things like books, mobile phones, computer screens, and menus easier to read. Reading glasses are typically used when one develops presbyopia, which is age-related diminished vision. It is also called farsightedness – but not by us! When you need reading glasses, you typically experience it as gradually becoming more difficult to focus sharply, especially on letters that are close up. What are 'ready-to-wear' glasses?

When do you need reading glasses?

Almost all of us will need reading glasses when we hit our 40s. Presbyopia occurs naturally as we age, as the eye's lens becomes less flexible and elastic.
